Nourishing our Community
from the Ground Up

Being Certified Naturally Grown guarantees that we don’t use any pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. At Wise Earth Farm we are working to create an environmentally sustainable, socially responsible farm-business model that is equitable for us farmers, and our community members.

About Wise Earth Farm
Established in 2011 by John Hofer and Brenda Paterson, Wise Earth is a two-acre, urban vegetable farm located at the corner of KLO Rd and Mission Creek in Kelowna, BC. We farm using Regenerative Agriculture principles which is an approach to food and farming that strengthens the vitality of our soil, increases biodiversity, improves water cycles, and supports carbon sequestration.
We believe that growing delicious and nutritious food comes from the health of the soil. Through our studies in soil microbiology with Dr. Elaine Ingham of the Soil Food Web we learned how to apply these regenerative concepts and are making and applying biologically rich compost and it’s teas, encouraging diversity of insects and animals on the farm, and geeking out with a microscope to look with awe and wonder at the life in healthy soil that is beyond our normal vision. And we are blessed to be adjacent the Mission Creek and have its fresh clean waters as our main irrigation source for our crops.

Start Fresh
We believe in community partnerships and are excited to announce that as of 2019 we have partnered up with the extraordinary people with Start Fresh Project. Wise Earth Farm is the classroom for the farm component of the Culinary Arts and Farm Education (CAFE) Program that Start Fresh runs every summer. The CAFE program is designed to connect, inspire and empower community members that are experiencing barriers to employment training and education in the culinary arts and sustainable farming.
Farming is Hard Work!
Our farm is a hands on operation that requires some pretty great people to make sure things run smoothly. Farming is really hard work, and we believe that the wage of the farmer needs to come up significantly to match the wages of other industries. We are committed to working hard to make this happen. By charging fair market prices for our product, and improving on efficiencies wherever we can we are determined to improve the earnings and benefits of our team. We are fortunate to have such an awesome crew of people working with us.
